Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator I. The Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Model Systems (MS) are research studies with a long history of funding at UAB. The SCIMS grant has been federally funded since 1974 and the TBIMS since 1998. Grant activities include a collection of data related to the long-term outcomes and how medical facilities can improve rehabilitation care for people following injury. Participants are enrolled during their initial rehabilitation. Data is obtained through medical chart review and interviews with study participants by phone, mail, or in person.
Due to the nature of the job expectations of this role, the candidate will be required to be on-site five (5) days a week.
General Responsibilities
- To serve as coordinator for studies and provide support to other team members within the confines of the protocol as directed.
- To support screening and participant eligibility determination, working with more senior team members to ensure compliance.
- To conduct activities in accordance with the protocol, regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
- To assist with the study life cycle from start-up to closure, i.e., collecting and recording data, recruiting and performing follow-up with participants, scheduling visits and assisting in coordination of lab and fieldwork.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Conducts study screening, enrollment, data abstraction, participant interviews, and data management.
- With minimal supervision of the TBIMS Director, this research position will also interact with TBIMS and SCIMS data coordinators/collectors throughout the United States to ensure uniformity of data collection and reporting.
- Utilizes data management systems to review and investigate issues related to the accuracy and completeness of data. Recognize trends related to data quality and escalate as needed.
- Participates in data collector meetings with other funded TBIMS and SCIMS centers.
- Provides input to other centers regarding UAB's practices to ensure uniformity of data collection and reporting.
- Reports to Dept. leadership regarding best practices used by other centers in attaining the highest quality of data collection.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Annual Salary Range: $43,890 - $71,320
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED required.
- A degree in a science field is preferred.
- Ideally, we need someone with a medical background, whether pre-med or planning to attend medical school in the future.
- Prior front patient interaction role in a medical facility a plus.
- Any prior experience entering or extracting information from an electronic medical record.
- This role will be spending time rounding in the clinic but also reading through medical records to identify key pieces of information needed for the study.
- Any experience with anatomy is a huge plus.
