Position Summary:
A Researcher Senior position is available in the laboratory of Dr. David Bedwell.
As a Researcher Senior, you will have expanded responsibilities, overseeing complex or multiple research projects and providing strategic direction. This professional-level role involves mentoring junior researchers, managing project budgets, and ensuring the integrity and quality of research outcomes. Your expertise will be critical in guiding experimental design, data interpretation, and contributing to high-impact publications. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research participant contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Wet lab research - Work as a member of a research team that explores the mechanism of translation termination and identifies small molecules that inhibit the termination process, with the goal of developing treatments for genetic diseases caused by nonsense mutations; - Design, perform, and troubleshoot experiments that examine protein and mRNA expression in cell and animal models; - Collect, document, and interpret data; - Communicate experimental results through written and oral reports/presentations. - Mammalian tissue culture, transfections, and generation of stable cell lines; - Administration of therapies to mice and collection of tissues; - Protein functional/expression assays in cells and mouse tissues (western blotting; protein purification; mass spectrometry, proteomics; kinomics); - RNA quantitation in cells and mouse tissues using quantitative PCR and transcriptomics.
- Lab administration - Help prepare written reports, presentations, posters, and manuscripts; - Help train students and new team members; - Help with administrative management of the lab (place orders, manage IACUC protocols, complete health safety reports, prepare grant progress reports). - Work with the PI and other team members to design, perform, and interpret data derived from biochemical and molecular biological assays;
- Perform other duties as assigned
Salary Range: $60,835 - $98,855
Qualifications
Doctorate degree in a related field OR Master's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferred:
- BS/BA in a life science field (ex: Biology, Biomedical, etc.)
- A high level of analytical ability
- Ability to act independently
- Ability to apply detailed analysis skills in resolving complex issues
- Ability to analyze situations and recommend solutions
- Documentation skills
- Ability to prioritize and coordinate work processes
- Be comfortable working with mice.
