PROGRAM DIRECTOR III
University of Alabama at Birmingham
This position will support the Office of the Chair within the UAB Surgery Department.
This position directs the administrative and fiscal affairs of a large complex department/division or multiple departments. The Program Director III provides administrative leadership and coordination for research training programs, large and multi-project research grants, junior faculty research career development, and resident research experiences.
1) Provides administrative oversight for three summer research training programs, including supervision of program coordination staff and program development in collaboration with faculty directors.
2) In collaboration with faculty director, provides leadership for resident research experience. Provides program coordination and orientation. Facilitates transition of residents into and out of research training. Facilitates and manages funding opportunities for resident research-related expenses. Provides mentoring in development and submission of fellowship applications.
3) Supports the development and maintenance of institutional and individual research training grants. Develops new training grant applications, progress reports, and competing renewals, as well as provides training grant administration, and program coordination for existing programs.
4) Provides career development guidance to junior faculty and postdoctoral research fellows. Facilitates the development of career development awards and mentoring in grant application development.
5) In collaboration with principal investigators, provides comprehensive support for the development and submission of large and multi-project research grants. Coordinates team actions and communications on behalf of principal investigators. Writes non-scientific components. Compiles, edits, proofreads, and submits applications in compliance with application requirements.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Directs the administrative and fiscal affairs of a large complex department/division or multiple departments.
- Represents and speaks on behalf of upper management with the University Administration at all levels.
- Responsible for strategic planning, analysis/forecasting/budgeting, oversight, legal documentation, formal agreements, international and domestic project administration and management.
- May be required to manage major international collaborations by partnering with faculty and other staff entities on project writing development, personnel management, facilities/space planning, fiscal aspects of the program including grant proposals and grant administration (in conjunction with departmental administrators).
- Establishes administrative and financial systems for the department.
- Directs department staff as needed to ensure completion of major projects and tasks.
- May require international travel and may assist in interdepartmental collaborations
Salary Range: $73,945- 120,165
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- And ten (10) years of related experience required.
- Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
