COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGIST SENIOR

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Analyzes genomics, metagenomics and exposomic data generated from human blood (human genome), saliva (oral microbiome), stool (gut microbiome), and subject report of exposures.
  • Individually and collaboratively, (e.g., with Microbiome Analytic Core of Collaborative Research Network), develop novel tools and frameworks to analyze the abovementioned high-throughput sequencing(-omics) data.
  • Use, repurpose, or build novel analytical software pipelines to find answers to the genetic, microbial and environmental causes and modifiers of Parkinson's disease progression
  • Use, repurpose, or build novel analytical software pipelines to identify biomarkers for clinical trials of Parkinson's disease. Follow the established best computational biology practices (e.g: use a workflow management system) and best operational practices developed in Payami lab and develop new pipelines as needed to ensure rigor, scalability, and reproducibility
  • Work closely with Dr. Payami and collaborators while leading a project. Leads meetings with collaborators and presents project updates.
  • Generate publication-ready figures, tables and write manuscripts.
  • support project design and execution.
  • Train and support colleagues with complementary expertise (human genetics, statistics).
  • Maintains detailed documentation of code and analyses, and standard practices of operation up to date
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Work Characteristics

  • Formal training and PhD in biological sciences
  • Proven experience to conduct and complete omics analytic projects
  • Experience in analysis of human gut and mouth microbiome
  • Ability to write manuscripts
  • Ideally, have experience in analysis of neurodegenerative diseases, Parkinson's disease

Salary Range : $99,090 - $130,000

Qualifications

Education

  • Doctorate degree in a related field
  • And four (4) years of related experience
  • OR Master's degree in a related field
  • And six (6) years of related experience
  • OR Bachelor's degree in related field
  • And eight (8) years of related experience required.
  • Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
