SCIENTIST I (Epidemiology and Population Health) - (T219162)

Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Med - Preventive Medicine, is seeking a Scientist I. The Scientist I will provide scientific expertise to support the research endeavors of the PI, which focuses on cardiometabolic disease prevention and health disparities using precision public health approaches. This will include managing and conducting data analyses, overseeing operations and staff for multiple funded projects, writing scientific reports, and aiding in disseminating study results.

General Responsibilities

  • To employ a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures in a particular field of specialization.
  • To plan, coordinate and conduct research.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Oversees analysts and aide in conducting data analyses on grant funded projects that include large cohort and electronic medical record data.
  2. Oversees staff and general operations of multiple funded studies to include staffing, administrative and budgeting duties.
  3. Handles data activities and management for the PI's projects. This includes data procurement, management, security and required documentation.
  4. Ensures adherence to study protocols and prepares reports for required IRB, NIH and other agency reporting and documentation (i.e. progress reports).
  5. Responsible for data integrity and reporting and ensures accurate reporting of study results.
  6. Aides in the design of grant funded studies and funding applications and helps write grants and publications.
  7. Helps mentor trainees and post-docs on the study team as needed.
  8. Must be proficient in R and/or SAS software.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Annual Salary Range $63,125.00 - $103,700.00

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Philosophy, D.V.M. or M.D. degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
  • OR M.D. and Master's degree.
  • OR Master's degree and four (4) years of related experience
  • OR Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of related experience

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • PhD in Epidemiology, Public Health, Health Services Administration or Data Science.
  • Content knowledge of cardiometabolic disease and health disparities preferred.
