Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Laboratory Medicine, is seeking a Scientist I. Seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated bioinformatics scientist to join an NIH-funded research program focused on the molecular and immunological basis of fungal infections including COVID-Associated Pulmonary Aspergillosis (CAPA), a secondary-mold infection observed in 5% of patients hospitalized with severe SARS-CoV-2 infection. The hired candidate will provide bioinformatics support for a wide variety of research projects including genomic analyses, epigenomics, single cell sequencing, and spatial transcriptomics as well as partake in a wide breadth of biomedical research in the Leal lab.
General Responsibilities
- To employ a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures in a particular field of specialization.
- To plan, coordinate and conduct research.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Conducts rigorous and original science.
- Independently designs, performs, and interprets experiments.
- Basic molecular techniques; Skilled in NGS, including sample and library preparation.
- Operating Systems: Windows, LINUX, experience in working on high computing clusters’
- High throughput data Analysis: Analysis of genomics, transcriptomic, epigenomic and interactome data analysis, Single cell sequencing, methylome.
- Bigdata: Experience in working with Bioinfomatic tools and multi-omics databases; Programming Languages: R, AWK and shell scripting
- Writes and publishes high-quality peer-reviewed research.
- Participates in grant writing.
- Supervises and trains undergraduate or graduate trainees and/or technicians.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Annual Salary Range $63,125.00 - $103,700.00
Qualifications
- Doctor of Philosophy, D.V.M. or M.D. degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
- OR M.D. and Master's degree.
- OR Master's degree and four (4) years of related experience
- OR Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of related experience
Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
