Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Anesthesiology Chair Office is seeking a Researcher III.
General Responsibilities
As directed:
- To independently set up and perform experiments and procedures in support of lab goals.
- To collect, enter, summarize, and analyze data.
- To monitor results, detect and report unusual outcomes and suggest modifications.
- To develop and improve techniques for the lab.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Familiarity with minor terminal surgical procedures such as anesthetizing mice, cannulating the trachea, removing tissues from biochemical measurements.
- Willingness to learn how to perform a number of procedures in anesthetized mice.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Hourly Salary Range $17.10 - $28.31
Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field
- OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
- OR Associate's degree in a related field and four (4) years of related experience
Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
- Experience with working with small animals such as mice, rats and possibly other species. Familiarity with maintaining colonies of transgenic mice.
- Experience breeding mice and checking genotype.
- Undergraduate degree in biological science or chemistry.
- Familiarity with basic biochemical measurements such as SDS PAGE, Western blots, PCR etc.

- Excellent records management ability, good verbal, and interpersonal skills.
