Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking an enthusiastic individual for the Researcher III position to work under the supervision of Principal Investigator Lalita Shevde-Samant, Ph.D., in the Department of Pathology, Division of Molecular and Cellular Biology. Dr. Shevde's research focuses on understanding tumor cell biology and the tumor immune microenvironment. The Shevde lab employs various mouse and cell line models to examine these interactions and conducts several downstream assays using cutting-edge technologies. The goal is to identify novel drug targets and test new treatment strategies.

General Responsibilities

As directed:

  • To independently set up and perform experiments and procedures in support of lab goals.
  • To collect, enter, summarize, and analyze data.
  • To monitor results, detect and report unusual outcomes and suggest modifications.
  • To develop and improve techniques for the lab.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Set ups and performs routine and established lab procedures concurrent with the goals of the laboratory.
  2. Collects, documents, and summarizes data.
  3. Records results and routinely reports outcomes to the PI.
  4. Assists in the maintenance and troubleshooting of lab equipment and procurement and inventory of supplies.
  5. Performs statistical analysis of data.
  6. Assists in minor surgeries on laboratory mice while maintaining aseptic techniques to induce or treat tumors.
  7. Preforms daily monitoring of mice under study.
  8. Maintains mammalian cell culture and bacterial culture stocks.
  9. Helps in management and maintenance of animal colonies including but not limited to: husbandry specimen collection genotyping.
  10. Performs user-interface based informatics analysis.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Annual Salary Range $35,570.00 - $59,800.00

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
  • OR Associate's degree in a related field and four (4) years of related experience

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • Knowledge and hands on implementation of biochem and Cell bio. assays.
  • Experience maintaining mammalian cell culture and bacterial culture stocks.
  • Experience in helping with management and maintenance of animal colonies including but not limited to: husbandry, specimen collection, genotyping.
