Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Genetics Research Division, is seeking a highly motivated Researcher III candidate with a training background in cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, neuroscience, or mitochondrial biology, to work on a NIH funded research project in the Srivastava Laboratory. Our research is focused on understanding the mechanisms of how neuronal loss of CASK gene produces epileptic encephalopathy in a mouse model and testing potential therapeutic strategies for this lethal neurological disease. To achieve our goals, we employ a multi-disciplinary experimental approach involving mitochondrial functional, fuel metabolic, biochemical, and neuronal electrophysiological activity-based measurements.
General Responsibilities
As directed:
- To independently set up and perform experiments and procedures in support of lab goals.
- To collect, enter, summarize, and analyze data.
- To monitor results, detect and report unusual outcomes and suggest modifications.
- To develop and improve techniques for the lab.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Conducts fifty (50) animal studies, analyzes results, and interprets data to confer with the lab director on research plans.
- Performs lab experiments using a combination of biochemical, cell biological, and imaging techniques.
- Manages lab, including ordering and receiving lab supplies, as well as working to keep equipment operational.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary Range $35,570-$59,800
Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field
- OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
- OR Associate's degree in a related field and four (4) years of related experience
Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
- Master’s or bachelor’s degree in biology, genetics, biochemistry, neuroscience, or related fields or equivalent related experience with a preference for mitochondrial biology. Candidates having a M.S. or equivalent degree will be preferred.
- Research experience in an academic or laboratory setting.
- Ability to organize and analyze experimental data.
