Description

Compensation:
Pay Range: $19.80 - $32.15 / hour
- $5,000 new hire sign-on bonus (Full-Time only)

Multiple Shifts Available:
UAB Medicine supports work/life balance. The shifts available for this unit are:
- Full-Time AM: 3 12-hour shifts per week
- Full-Time PM: 3 12-hour shifts per week
- Flexi/PRN

Unit Details
:
The Unit for Neuroscience Nursing is a 20-bed acute care unit that cares for patients with neurological illnesses and injuries like epilepsy and glioblastomas, as well as those having neurosurgery and spinal surgery. This unit also treats patients undergoing ketamine infusion therapy and those who have an externalized shunt or lumbar drain. This team has a strong focus on patient safety and has been consistently recognized for preventing patients from getting a central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI). Nurses on this unit are part of a specialized interdisciplinary care team that is at the forefront of research. UAB Neurology and Neurosurgery is consistently ranked among the top 50 programs of its kind nationally by U.S. News & World Report, which also has ranked UAB’s program as No. 1 in Alabama. This unit recently earned a Nursing Communication HCAHPS performance domain score of Level 5 for delivering excellent care and achieving high levels of patient satisfaction.

Job Description:
Under general supervision, to provide nursing care to patients based on the nursing process, UAB Hospital Standards of Nursing Care, and UAB Hospital policies and procedures while ensuring quality of care. To orient patients and family members to surrounding environment, acting as a patient advocate. To collect patient assessment data and notify RN of potential problems. To evaluate patient s response to care and report findings to RN, document delivery of patient care, effectively respond to emergency situations, demonstrate positive interpersonal skills, meet patient s educational needs, and serve as a role model to other members of the patient care team.

Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing Program required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed or licensed by endorsement as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
